During the initial consultation I survey the proposed area fully, noting such things as the basic dimensions, aspect, soil samples and existing features. I have an open conversation with my client to determine a full list of requirements and to talk about other possibilities within the brief. I can give guidance on the costs of different areas of the build and it is helpful at this point to have some idea of the budget, as this does affect the design process. The next phase is for me to produce drawings and plans showing the overall design and materials used: paving, bricks, gravels, plants. Once the proposed design is agreed, I can outline the full cost of materials and labour and organise a schedule of works. When work begins I will be on hand to manage contractors and solve any problems that may arise which affect the design. I prepare the areas set for planting and after completion of the hard landscaping I can plant out. I am also able to offer a garden maintenance service for any after care required. Plant selection is always dependent on the make up of the garden. Whether it is a hot dry site, a shady area or acidic soil conditions there are plenty of options and colours for you to enjoy. Many perennial plants are easily maintained and can be planted in drifts or informal mixes; cottage style or contemporary textual blocks. Given a good, well prepared start, schemes will establish to give great displays changing with the seasons.
